Great post, a lot of people will start thinking about energy conservation in the future i think. It could even become a government policy in the next century for all we know but its great to prepare now, like they say prevention is better than cure.

I believe that empowering people to reduce their energy usage and emissions is something that really does require government backing and support. People as individuals either tend not to have the motivation or knowledge to achieve these reductions on their own.

With the recent complete lock-down of flights in European airspace due to the Icelandic volcanic eruption, carbon emissions were down around 70%! This just goes to show what can be achieved through reduction measures.

Transport is a good place to start, but even the smaller steps such as ensuring your home is properly insulated with good quality double glazed windows and doors make a difference!

Good article, interesting to see how it turned out in the end. Would love to see another effort at the global turning off of electricity. That would be phenomenal.

I remember a couple years ago they tried to do something like that across the world for everyone to turn off their electricity for an hour. Was meant to save on emissions, but things have gone back to normal now.

You can uprgard your glass to energy efficient glazing which will more than reduce the effciency by 10%, also turning the heating down by a little bit will reduce your heating bills.
